“Pre-Crime” Surveillance Cameras – the cameras will be able to track up to 150 people at a time in real time and will gradually build up a ‘memory’ of suspicious behaviour to work out what is suspicious. [Daily Mail]
Street Light Surveillance Cameras – not only can they record sound and video, these cameras can also broadcast audible warnings in case of an emergency, as well as “security announcements”. More at Infowars.
Scanning From A Distance – fingerprints from 20 feet, as well as drugs, chemicals and food from 50 metres. And now the mobile backscatter radiation x-ray scanners that are used in airports (aka full-body security scans) have become portable, and are being used from within vans in the USA. No mention of the range, but this image is of a passing vehicle:
Unmanned Drones – invented for war, these are now proliferating at home.
Cell Phone Spying – everything short of your live conversations can be obtained without a warrant. Text messages, voicemails, your location and who you called. Fake Cell Phone Towers have also been deployed to intercept your data.
License Plate Readers – designed by toll road businesses, our governments are starting to use these to keep a track of the vehicular movements of their citizens. More at Washington Post.
Border Security – we all know that we can be subject to body scanning, frisking and searches of our belongings. And of course cavity searches. But did you know that Customs can search through the contents of your laptop, phone or camera – without a reason?
NSA Spy Center – every phone call and email stored for possible future use:
The heavily fortified $2 billion center should be up and running in September 2013. Flowing through its servers and routers and stored in near-bottomless databases will be all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Google searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital “pocket litter.” [Wired]
Facial Recognition – if your face is stored in a government database, then they can recognize you in real time. All they need is a surveillance camera or a photo from a connected device like an iPhone.
